Systems approaches to the complexity of biological systems are becoming prominent across biological, environmental and medical research at the international level.

The federative structure Environnemental and Systems Biology (BEeSy) at the University Joseph Fourier in Grenoble intends to merge different classical disciplines to develop and apply integrative and systemic approaches. It aims at integration across multiple levels of biological organization, space and time to advance understanding of the network behavior of biological and ecological systems, and develop practical applications for human health and well-being and sustainable development. It thus covers the entire range of living organisms from microorganisms, plants and animals to humans, and integrates biologists, chemists, computer scientists, mathematicians, physicists, and research-oriented physicians. BEeSy will foster research, method development, and teaching in the interdisciplinary context on the Grenoble University Campus.
